Kerberos Kerberos is an authentication mechanism developed at MIT, which has been accepted as a standard for distributed network environments. In Greek Mythology, Kerberos was the fierce watchdog of Hades. He was depicted as a three-headed dog with a serpent's tail, a mane of snakes, and a lion's claws. At UC Davis, Kerberos is like our secure-computing-service watchdog, ensuring that nobody else can access your email and other services specific to your needs, which is why users should never share their Kerberos password.
